We had a total of 15 teams compete this year from all over the state at Atlee High School in Mechanicsville. Two of our judges were former Drill Sgts, so they wore their “smokey the bear” hats (#1). The last photo (#5) is with Brad (in the field jacket) who has been the Drill Master for our very popular individual competition (#4) towards the end of the day. We also had a 20 members from the USAF Drill Team attend, judge, performed several intricate maneuvers after the competition was complete, and then met with the participants to talk about their experience on the Drill Team. Competition was tough and in some cases, the difference between first and second was only 1 point. Our first place team, Unity Reed High School out of Manassas, took first place in three competitions, and placed second place in another, earning a total score of 117 out of 120 possible points.
The Virginia State Executive Committee and the Richmond Chapter Executive Committee wish to thank the Atlee High School staff for accommodating the the drill meet again.
