About Us
The Virginia State Air & Space Forces Association (AFA) is an independent, non-profit aerospace organization which currently around 7,000 members. They come from both military and civilian ranks, on active duty and retired, also from businesses, schools and the public at large. What we all share is a deep concern and commitment to our Nation and the part aerospace plays in it. While the Virginia State organization is closely tied to the other central eastern states known as the Central-East Region, (Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia) it is also broadly linked to every other state and chapter, nationwide – ~100,000 members strong.
What?
The Virginia State AFA provides the vehicle to keep its members informed of issues involving national aerospace initiatives, needs and concerns; including hardware, quality of life and industrial involvement and support. It communicates this information through Air Force Magazine — the association’s official magazine, with state and chapter programs, and through newsletters and press releases provided to the media.
At all levels, the AFA is committed to young people and their education, supporting aerospace education and making the elementary and grade school level Visions Program, available to all school systems. The AFA as well, provides scholarships for college study and “Space Camps”: supports local AFROTC, AFJROTC units and sponsors Civil Air Patrol cadet programs and orientation flights. The AFA also offers a Community Partners program for businesses and industries who wish to involve themselves with our nation’s aerospace future.
AFA support and participation is made at fairs, drives, veteran and special events, meetings and conventions.
Where?
The Virginia State AFA is part of the Central-East Region, AFA. At present, Virginia State’s six chapters are active in both the Commonwealth’s highest population and rural areas. Continued association growth, participation and commitment will be a major and ongoing goal.
The main body of the Virginia State AFA is the Executive Committee (EXCOM), which is made up of the State Officers and all Chapter Presidents. The EXCOM meets at least once each quarter. The meetings are hosted by local chapters on a rotating basis.
